The Summer House director Daisy Gili recently talked to MTV about the short film as well as Rob!

Gili felt the character of Richard was a struggle for Rob, because he had to play someone so different from himself. “He’s quite a gentle person. He’s a really nice person. And he has to play quite a not very nice character, and I think he struggled with that,” Gili said. “He wasn’t playing a role that he was particularly comfortable with, but he still manages to have a real presence: brooding, slightly menacing. You’re never quite sure whether he wants her because he wants to have sex with her or because he loves her. And I think he delivers that brilliantly.”

It is Northern France and the swinging sixties are well underway. While mankind is landing on the moon, a young girl becomes a woman and learns that life on earth can prove to be just as alien as those famous first steps.

The Summer House pairs the emerging British starlet, Talulah Riley (St Trinian’s, The Boat That Rocked) alongside international idol, Robert Pattinson.

“We are delighted that Talulah and Robert’s intoxicating on-screen chemistry can now be seen on iTunes,” said The Summer House producer Anna MacDonald. “We are immensely proud of the film and are looking forward to seeing how audiences react.”

“This sweeping, romantic fable will be a Summer 2010 hit,” said Carter Pilcher, CEO of Short International. “From Keira Knightley to Mel Gibson, not to mention Beyonce and Lady Gaga, the stars are breaking in to short movies – now it’s time for Robert Pattinson and Talulah Riley to join the club.”

As we told you a few weeks ago, The Summer House was screened at the British Society of Cinematographers New Cinematographers Night in November of 2009.

The BSC updated with their program for that night, including The Summer House, listing it as 14 minutes long.

Filmed in France, this is the first venture by Miss Gili to produce write and direct her own short film. Although she is joint principle of the non government funded London Film Academy, her short was made totally independent of the LFA. The result is a warm, dreamy piece, which captures the lazy summer afternoons and cool evenings at the French villa, for a gathering of family members. I suppose the temptation may have been there to pace it up a bit, but she held to the story which gently unfolded. Nicely photographed by Alex Ryle.
